I am just starting to learn French, something I decided to do last winter. I had just started taking some ballet lessons, where the majority of the terms used are French, and was in the process of looking for a job in hockey, where many of the players are French Canadian. After two short stints of studying the language in the past eight months (the first interrupted by a busy work schedule and the second by a cross-country move), I am now hoping to jump full in to the language.
That cross-country move brought me to Texas, where I now am working in hockey with those French Canadian players but am also finding myself, unsurprisingly, surrounded by a large Spanish-speaking population. I took three years of high school Spanish plus three semesters in college. But that last Spanish class being almost 10 years ago, I am in definite need of refreshment. I find I kind understand at least simple conversations but am no longer comfortable speaking the language.
So now I will attempt to study two languages at once. Here I will share some of my favorite resources that I discover and discuss my progress as I go along. I will also use this space to practice both languages as I become more comfortable with them both.
